Book review: The patient’s checklist by Elizabeth Bailey

If you would like to be more in control and more informed during your next hospital stay, I suggest picking up a copy of The patient’s checklist. This is a spiral-bound book that lists the types of information you should gather before and during a hospital stay. It also provides pages for recording this information.

The book is arranged as ten sections with checklists:
1. Before you go
2. What to bring
3. During your stay
4. Master medication list
5. Daily medication log
6. Daily journal
7. Discharge plan
8. Insurance
9. Doctor contacts
10. Family and friends contacts

I think another benefit of this book is that it empowers patients (and their family members) to take an active role in their care during a hospital stay, and to speak up when they have questions.
